Emmanuel Macron presides over a traditional November 11 ceremony in the rain
Emmanuel Macron inaugurated Monday in Paris a monument to 549 military "dead for France", in external operations since 1963, on the occasion of the November 11 commemoration which began in the morning under a gray sky and rain. Wreaths lay in front of the statue of Georges Clemenceau, climbing the Champs-Elysees with a large escort of Republican Guards, wreaths placed in front of the tombs of Unknown Soldiers and reviving the flame of Unknown Soldiers: the head of state leads a traditional ceremony to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the Armistice in the presence of many political actors, including Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Senate Chairman Gérard Larcher.
